As California Democrats prepare for an unprecedented retaliatory redistricting effort, San Mateo County lawmaker say it’s the only option to prevent a Trump-initiated rigging of the upcoming 2026 midterms.

California’s redistricting would only kick in if other states go forward with their own midcycle redistricting policies. It will likely offer voters the option to create more Democratic House of Representatives seats in the state after Texas lawmakers first made plans to do the same in favor of Republicans.

Until 60 senate seats are obtained by either party no cause for concern. When I was raised a few sayings I would hear come to mind: Two wrongs don't make a right, If everyone was jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge would you? If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it, and that the bed you made so lay in it.

This is not the time to take a moral high ground. If this is the game Republicans want to play, let's play. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

ILikePi - no morals here. Pure corruption on the part of the California Democrats. How is it possible that Republican voters are severely underrepresented in DC? What happens in Texas should not have any impact on what we do in California. Newsom and his gang are the slimy ones here. Even a real Democrat should be wondering.

I think you just made my point for me. Please, tell me when is the time for the moral high ground? The excuse you offer could be used for any and all reprehensible behavior - and it is, but we call the other side out for those acts. Want to wear it like Trump does?

California delivers 52 House Representatives but only 9 are Republican. For a State that is 40% Red, why would the Democrats even force even less Republican representation? Their screaming for a democratic process is more than hollow and Newsom should be carted out of town. Hypocrisy at its best.

If voters believe what is happening in Texas is illegal (it appears not to be) and/or immoral or void of a standard of ethics, then it it is impossible for California to violate the constitution of this state by this workaround being proposed, without being 100% hypocritical. You can't call out another for doing what you are about to do. Further, if one looks at the map of the US, there are more red states who could do this to get control of the seats needed to keep control of congress. This is a very bad idea, but perfectly in line with Gavin's goal of trying to win in 2028. I don't think he is owed that by the voters (and I also believe he will lose, putting Vance in for eight years).

Hilarious how Democrats are falling all over themselves trying to explain why they’re a threat to democracy in countering a supposed threat to democracy from Trump which has never materialized. I fully expect the anti-democratic actions from Dems to be challenged in court although judge-shopping is a big thing with Democrats and we can’t count on judges to enforce our laws. As such, let’s slow walk the appeals until we reach the Supreme Court, after which time it may be too late. Meanwhile, let’s hope all states gerrymander and see what shakes out. Most blue states are almost gerrymandered out so big gains for red states would be my guess.
