Editor,
Letter writer Steven Howard and columnist Dan Walters both think it is OK for Republicans to gerrymander their states’ political districts to get more congressional seats, but, it is not OK for the Democrats to do the exact same thing. Hypocrisy is OK for Republicans, but, not OK for Democrats. Putting their political party first, before America and the American people, is OK for the Republicans, but, not OK for the Democrats. Lying, cheating and breaking the law is OK for Republicans, but, not OK for Democrats.

Agreed. When one side won’t play by the rules, then there are no rules. If you are in a boxing match and your opponent is allowed to bring a knife, but you aren’t, then it’s not a fair fight. Talk about rigging the system!
If Californians are depending on Gov Newsome we're in big trouble.

Here is a news flash "Newsom cares about America". Hey Mr. Oberg, since when? He is suspending the democratically redistricting effort that the voters had approved. Is that another interpretation of democracy that the Democrats are throwing around like dirty laundry? What do we care in California about the Texas decisions? Newsom is just trying to repair his dwindling popularity which is clearly not in the interest of Californians but only for himself. And you accuse Trump of what Newsom is actually doing? You are one of the group thinkers that our esteemed columnist wrote about today.
Hilarious. Here we go again with Mr. Oberg attempting to blame Republicans for Democrat antics. It doesn’t feel so nice when the shoe is on the other foot, does it Mr. Oberg? But nice try, Mr. Oberg, in trying to rationalize Newsom’s irrational attempt to destroy democracy in his perceived, but not real, threat to democracy by Republicans. BTW, ever notice how often Dems blame Republicans for the things Dems are guilty of? Always, it seems. Have a Trump-tastic day!
The argument that California should gerrymander because Republicans do is not a defense, it’s an excuse.
California voters created an independent redistricting commission to keep politics out of the process. It works. Newsom’s proposal would override that system and hand control back to politicians. It's a move that is fundamentally undemocratic, no matter who’s in power.
If democracy is truly at stake, the answer isn’t more partisan control. It’s protecting the nonpartisan systems we already have.
Mr. Oberg: You stated: “Lying, cheating and breaking the law is OK for Republicans, but not OK for Democrats.”
It isn’t even in the nature of, or MO, for Democrats, as it apparently is for dishonest Republicans.
