Editor,

You may have received multiple flyers in the mail about Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, that were intentionally misleading. Don’t be fooled! Anti-democratic forces are redrawing the lines of our democracy — not to reflect the will of the people, but to rig the 2026 midterms a year from now. In Texas and across Republican-run states, communities are being broken apart so politicians pick their voters instead of the other way around. The goal is simple: give themselves more seats in the House of Representatives, locking in power unfairly and pushing the country toward complete one-party rule and authoritarian control.

You are so right, Nathanael. The hypocrisy of the "rules for me, not for thee" right wingers should be laughable, but it's dead serious. Prop 50 clearly aims to even the field only if Texas and others gerrymander mid-cycle in fear of their failure to hold on to their death grip on Congress due to their wildly unpopular policies. It's time they won their seats by serving their constituents - what a novel idea.

Correction to my post below:

California wins the gerrymandering prize as it only allows 17% of its Congressional seats go to Republicans while Texas allows for 34% of its Congressinal seats to go to Democrats.

California has gerrymandered far more than Texas with only 8% Republican House seats (12 to 23) while in Texas allows for 31% Democrat House seats (25/38).

The second twisted logic LTE for this week. A former local radio host ascribed comments like these to a mental deficiency. Mr. Horton, do you honestly believe that California needs more leftist representation in DC? Those of us in the middle or right of center are already threatened! I realize that in your book democracy can only be secured by the group thinkers of the Democrats but more than 40% of the voters disagree with you. Should they be ignored?

My favorite line was: "If we do nothing, gerrymandered maps in Texas will dictate who speaks for California in the House of Representatives." How exactly does this work? Twisted logic is putting it mildly.

Hilarious The bat signal for writing letters to irrationally rationalize the the partisan manipulation that is being attempted by Proposition 50 has gone out. Mr. Horton attempts to justify wannabe dictator Newsom’s being a threat to democracy to counter an imaginary threat to democracy. We can only hope other states embrace redistricting in their responses to Proposition 50. Along with cleaning out their voter rolls. One now understands why Democrats have become the party of supporting invaders to our country more than American citizens, why Democrats have become the party of supporting biological men to compete against biological women, why Democrats have become the party of supporting criminals in our midst and being against law enforcement. These are folks who attempt to rationalize cheating and hypocrisy just because they hate Trump more than they love America. Let’s hope more folks love America than the hate and divisiveness Newsom and Democrats continue to push.
