Editor,
Although Mr. Oberg totally missed the point of my last letter, I want to thank him for helping me make my case that people under the spell of a political party mistakenly equate the party’s interests with those of the public.

Editor,
Although Mr. Oberg totally missed the point of my last letter, I want to thank him for helping me make my case that people under the spell of a political party mistakenly equate the party’s interests with those of the public.
His remarks are elitist and divisive. He states that the Republicans started the gerrymandering war. Well, not really. Both parties have been engaging in this practice for decades but the Democratic Party wants you to believe this to justify their action. He states that he and his brethren are the folks who uphold the Constitution, yet he has no problem bypassing the California Constitution when it suits the party’s purposes. It was the people of California, not a political party, that voted into law the requirement of an independent group to do the redistricting.
This law is now inconvenient for the Democratic Party and Mr. Oberg has the chutzpah to state he supports “fair elections.” Mr. Oberg needs to get out more. He lives under this blue bubble that is the Peninsula where most folks think like him. He forgets that half the country voted for the guy he despises. He needs to take his rhetoric to some of the red states and see how well it plays. And lastly he brings up the concept of “us” versus “them.”
Here again, this is party versus party and is incredibly destructive. If we are to survive as a Democracy, we must cast off this spell and demand that our elected officials place the needs of the people above those of the party.

Thank you Steve - a great letter - you nailed!!
Mr. Howard; I decided not to waste a LTE on you this month and respond to your recent LTE. The Trump Republican party has a history of gerrymandering since Trump's first term. That's documented history. The current issue with the Texas gerrymandering is what I am referring to in my LTE. The big difference between Texas Republicans and California Democrats is, the Texas legislature voted to approve the gerrymandering process without asking the Texas citizens to vote on it, whereas, the California governor placed the Proposition 50 regarding the gerrymandering on the ballot for the citizens to vote on it for approval. THAT is called Democracy! (Whether you or TY like it or not.) You claim to not be in the Republican party, but, as the saying goes, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, then, it is a duck (Republican). You and your Trump enabler Republicans think it is ok to violate the law, but, when the Democrats do the same type of thing, it is not ok. THAT is the definition of elitist and divisive. I think you need to buy a dictionary to learn what those words mean. Also, thank you for proving that what I said was true.. When a person is caught lying and then says, ok, both parties are guilty, then, I know you know what I said was true. And, your last paragraph says it all. You know your party is not "placing the needs of the people above those of the party".
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Howard, highlighting Mr. Oberg’s biased and partisan letter. When are they not? Remember, this is the Mr. Oberg who won’t accept the fact (even reported by the left wing press) that Obama put kids in cages and Pelosi, through her admitted dereliction of duty, failed to protect the Capitol from a so-called insurrection. Mr. Oberg doesn’t believe the US Constitution protects individual liberties when everyone under the sun can quickly and easily do a simple search for “does the constitution protect individual liberties” and find out that yep, the US Constitution protects individual liberties. If Mr. Oberg isn’t willing to acknowledge those facts, what else is Mr. Oberg willing to overlook to support his Democrat talking point narrative? We can only hope Mr. Oberg and those of his same mindset cast off the Democrat spell and demand that our elected officials place the needs of the people above those of the party.
TY; Boy, your memory of the documented history of America is sure fantasy-land stuff. Obama never put kits in cages, Trump did that! There is video on Youtube about it. Pelosi wasn't at fault for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, it was Trump! Stop lying TY. No one respects a liar. No one believes a liar like you, and, never will. As for your BS about the US Constitution protect individual liberties, yes, but, only to a point. If you had an education in Law (including Constitutional Law) like I have, you would know what the US Constitution really says about that, instead of just making this BS up like you do.
Mike O. - if you allege that you are educated on the the provisions of the Constitution, it was a severely wasted effort. You may be referring to the constitution of the Sviet Union. Also, there are a plethora of videos that you seem to skip about Obama's placing kids, not kits, and families in cages. In fact, Biden used the same cages during his disastrous open border policies. Before you make accusations of ignorance and willful disinformation, please look in your mirror before you post.
Mike O., your outrage is noted and immediately dismissed. And speaking of memory, don’t you remember that over a year ago I did your homework and provided a link from a Trump-hating news source, your beloved AP (https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-democratic-national-convention-ap-fact-check-immigration-politics-2663c84832a13cdd7a8233becfc7a5f3) showing Obama’s kids in cages? Of note is the paragraph describing the AP printing a photo of kids in cages (from photos taken by the AP in 2014). (I assume you mean kids and not “kits” unless you’re referring to meal kits but that makes even less sense than your assertion Obama didn’t put kids in cages.)
Speaking of videos on YouTube, you can do some homework and search for videos of Pelosi admitting responsibility for allowing the Jan. 6 riot to occur (I thank you for realizing and no longer calling this riot an insurrection). And thanks for admitting the US Constitution does protect individual liberties. Even if you’re trying to minimize your confusion with a caveat, we can see you’re admitting the US Constitution does protect individual liberties. As for your caveat, we have the Supreme Court to ultimately decide upon your “point.” Or are you going to insist the US Constitution does not create a Supreme Court?
As you’ve said and for now one of the only things you say we can believe, “No one respects a liar. No one believes a liar like you, and, never will.” So, when will you take the right exit off the Democrat talking point highway and stop being fooled? Recant your false beliefs and accept that Obama put kids in cages and Pelosi was responsible for allowing the Jan. 6 riot to occur. If you don’t, nobody will respect or believe you, and they never will. You’ve shown us who you are, now show us who you can become. Don’t worry. You’re always welcome to board the Trump train. No fare is required as long as you debate with facts and not Democrat fake news and lies. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
