Editor,

A short time ago, Trump told the Texas Republicans to cheat on the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. Trump knows that he must have the House controlled by the GOP so he can continue his corrupt and criminal activity destroying America piece by piece.  The Texas Republicans obliged Trump and passed a state bid approving cheating for the 2026 midterm elections by gerrymandering five local voting districts to gain more GOP seats in Congress. No public vote. They are going to cheat.

Yawn, snore… Thanks for, as Mr. van Ulden describes, your “inconsequent bashing” letter, Mr. Oberg, again attempting to irrationally rationalize the threat to democracy known as Prop. 50. But how can we believe you when you won’t accept the fact (even reported by the left wing press) that Obama put kids in cages and Pelosi, through her admitted dereliction of duty, failed to protect the Capitol from a so-called insurrection. If you aren’t willing to acknowledge those facts, what else are you willing to overlook to support Democrat talking point narratives? At least you now acknowledge the US Constitution protects individual liberties when in the past you didn’t. Don’t fall for the lies from those who want to destroy democracy. Vote NO on Prop. 50. Thank you.

The only threat to democracy right now is Trump.

Thanks for your flawed and unsupported opinion, Rscollins. We’ve gone over this numerous times. Everyone (even the ones who’d like to conveniently forget) knows there is a difference between Newsom’s threat to democracy and Texas’s redistricting. Texas lawmakers are pursuing new congressional maps following a directive from the DOJ asserting that current maps violate civil rights laws. There’s no such directive to California. But now that wannabe dictator Newsom started a redistricting war, Missouri finalized their efforts to replace a Democrat seat with a Republican one. I believe Indiana and Florida are pondering redistricting, also. We can only hope all red states will retaliate against Newsom’s threat to democracy.

Your responses are so biased it’s impossible to have a rational discussion with you. I read your comments on people’s letters. They’re always condescending and scolding. So you think that just because the DOJ (read Trump) says it’s okay, Texas can do it. Without a public vote. But somehow it’s not okay for California to do it…with a public vote. Your right wing logic is spilling out all over the place. And btw, check your timeline, Newsom didn’t start this, and if you say he did you’re just lying. If you’re so sure you’re right, why don’t you write an actual letter to the printed edition rather than sniping online at those willing to have their opinions published?

Thanks, Rscollins, for your biased response. I’m not sure what you don’t understand. Texas lawmakers are pursuing new congressional maps following a directive from the DOJ asserting that current maps violate civil rights laws. There’s no such directive to California. Your left wing logic is spilling out all over the place. And check your timeline. Texas didn’t attack California. Wannabe dictator Newsom did start the redistricting war and if you say he didn’t you’re just lying.

Why do I need to write a separate letter? Mr. van Ulden has done a more than adequate job in today’s edition and I’ve been quite clear in my responses. However, if you’re so sure you’re right, why don’t you write an actual letter to the printed edition rather than sniping online at those willing to have their comments and responses published? BTW, I’m flattered you closely follow my erudite comments, similar to DavidKristofferson. I can’t help when folks exposed for their hypocrisy, fake news, and lies consider it condescending and scolding. Those who aren’t exposed find the tone of my commentary acceptable. That being said, in the interests of expanding my writing skills, you or anyone else is welcome to rewrite my comments on this thread or any other and show me how it should be done. Thank you in advance.

Another page in the Trump bad, Democrats good, saga. Don't you ever get tired of your inconsequent bashing?

I am curious about something Dirk. Are you under the impression that the POTUS is to take sides with one of the parties, as he has done, or shouldn't he be the more neutral President who makes a decision based on facts and not lies. I guess the challenge there is that 1) the President has sided with a party and 2) he lies so much that he doesn't even know what the truth of the matter is. If you look back about 8 years, the separation of the parties was much smaller and milder and they were very willing to work together. Then, truth be told, a millionaire non politician came on scene and change the rules to he with the most money is right and in charge, but what you all seem to forget is that the POTUS works FOR the people, or should anyway. Donny seems to think the people work for him. Yes, he is very notable about not taking a salary, because he is still on the payroll of Trump Enterprises, which in and of itself is illegal. He claims his sons are running the business even though they couldn't claw their way our of a paperbag that is open at both ends. So when you say "Trump bad, Democrats good" you are included in the clan of folks that are truly creating a larger and larger separation between the parties and promoting that the POTUS should be taking sides. Sadly, you are mistaken, but I doubt you will ever see it that way being on the "red team".

Another page in the Trump bad, Democrats good, saga from mmaylan. In addition to the nothingburgers Mr. Maylan cites, it is convenient how Mr. Maylan memory-holes the actions of treasonous Obama and treasonous Biden and their attempts to keep Trump from winning the presidency. Hey Mr. Maylan, in lawfare antics against Trump, I don’t recall anyone attempting to prosecute our (yes, our) great President Trump for being on the payroll of Trump Enterprises. Don’t you think Democrats would have hopped on that issue like ants at a picnic if it were illegal? When you claim Trump bad, Democrats good, you’re sadly mistaken, but I doubt you will ever see it that way being on the “wrong (left) team” and not on the right side of history. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
