Editor,
I think letter writer Kenneth Dulaney (Oct. 10) misused the adage “two wrongs don’t make a right” regarding Proposition 50, since in fact it’s really one “wrong” and one “right.”

Editor,
I think letter writer Kenneth Dulaney (Oct. 10) misused the adage “two wrongs don’t make a right” regarding Proposition 50, since in fact it’s really one “wrong” and one “right.”
“Wrong” is Texas mandating a gerrymander during an off-census year, and by decree without any participation of the electorate, simply because our president demanded it. Other Republican states will follow this draconian pattern with no public input.
“Right” is putting a politically-neutral redistricting commission in place using California’s proposition laws, initiated by the citizens and then voted on by those same citizens. That’s democracy in action whereby those voters who agreed on the commission can also remove it if circumstances change.
Have circumstances changed? Well, unless you believe that being ICE’d based on the color of your skin, having the military invade cities to stifle peaceful protests, and indicting anyone who disagrees with our unfit leader is a good thing, then vote no.
Currently, there are eight Democratically-controlled states with independent commissions while there are none in Republican-controlled states. Meanwhile, the “NO on 50” campaign calls the “yes” vote a “power grab” even though it’s just the opposite since the power still remains with the California voters, not the politicians.
Let’s end this perversion of what’s left of our democracy before it’s too late — vote yes.

Irv, really great letter explaining the realities in excellent and concise terms. Perfect! Bravo
Hilarious. Hey Mr. Brenner, please watch reputable news media and you’ll see your “peaceful protests” in Chicago and Portland. If you’re willing to lie about those, what else are you willing to lie about? When it comes to our (yes, our) great President Trump, I’d say everything, which is why we can’t believe you. And thanks to Newsom starting a redistricting war, other states are taking up the challenge to resist Newsom’s treachery.
They go low, we go high, they win. Finally, a power grab not a power gift.
