Editor,
I read with interest writer Steven Howard’s letter addressing Democrat support of Gov. Newsom’s gerrymandering proposal.
While I share his concerns, I can’t help but notice his neglecting to address Texas’ actions and potential actions of other red states that precipitated California’s response. His analogy of a playground fight resulting in a “black eye” for the people of California might be an oversimplification when that black eye could be a decapitation of America’s small “d” democracy. He is alarmed by possible partisan retribution targeting our generous “donor state,” but rather than being incensed, he seems to accept what could be considered an implied threat of extortion.
Granted, it’s distasteful that the California Constitution will be disrespected but as the U.S. Constitution has found itself the victim of Trump’s legendary “fifteen flushes,” isn’t this the new norm? To be clear, I was raised by my parents to never cheat as you only cheat yourself. Whether as a child playing board games, golf, cards or team sports in school and as an adult, I can say I have lived up to their guidance.
Still, I will support this redistricting as it is existential in nature and I will not label it cheating but leveling the playing field for fairness. We all live in a new world, and should Trump turn his valuable (in)attention and war on “woke” to Disneyland’s, already annoying, “Small World” ride, the thought of “all white” animatrons singing “It’s a MAGA world after all,” will surely be my end.

Another despicable spin provided by the Left. "I will not label it cheating but leveling the playing field for fairness." Cory, I don't think your parents raised you to twist your mind for political purposes. You have to live with your incomprehensible decision but I doubt that many share your defection.
Many thanks for your letter, Cory, providing insight into the “logic” of those afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome. Folks, Cory David has epitomized Democrat thought processes, especially when they hate Trump more than they love America. These folks attempt to irrationally rationalize their hyperemotional states to justify sacrificing their personal ethics (or at least the ethics they claim to have) and common sense. One now understands how Democrats have become the party of supporting invaders to our country more than American citizens, how Democrats have become the party of supporting biological men to compete against biological women, how Democrats have become the party of supporting criminals in our midst and being against law enforcement. Ask yourself if these are the types of folks you want to support: folks who attempt to rationalize cheating and hypocrisy and their other actions just because they hate Trump more than they love America.
