Editor,

As we watch Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump and other administration officials promoting a state religion, we should look around the world to see how state sponsored and enforced religion is working out. Americans should look at the strife that religion causes in countries like India, Pakistan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Myanmar, Northern Ireland and many others. And then we should ask ourselves “Is that what we want in America? The administration called its camp meeting “Rededication 250.” We should rededicate ourselves to the separation of church and state enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Here we go again… Thanks for your letter, Mr. Paine, but you’ve been misled about the concept of the separation of church and state. Mr. Hegseth, President Trump and other administration officials are not forcing you to follow their religion or any religion. You’re free to bow at the Church of Taylor Swift or the Church of Mickey Mouse, or any other church if you so choose. Feel free to rededicate yourself to whoever/whatever you see fit but don’t waste your time attempting to mislead the right people about the separation of church and state. We know better (even those who don’t admit it). BTW, there are several references to God in the Declaration of Independence but not the Constitution. Why is that? Because nobody is forcing you to a specific religion? Have a Trump-tastic long weekend!

Lou

Thanks Terence, for carrying the torch! God bless America, Pres. Trump and all who serve us.

And thank you Lou, for also carrying the torch and for your contributions. I appreciate contributors of the right mind (you know who you are) who share my love for America and are willing to step forward to hold accountable TDS-afflicted folks who hate Trump more than they love America. Have a great long weekend. Our block party is going to do our best to emulate a climate conference where we increase our carbon emissions. I know my friend DK will give me a pass as he does with all other climate change lecturers who talk-the-talk but never walk-the walk. BTW, if Mr. Paine is truly outraged, will Mr. Paine give me all of his currency which has "In God We Trust" on it?

Trump serving US? You must be kidding!

Jorg

Religion, a lie from beginning to end, has always been a troublemaker, causing hate and wars through the ages. Don’t we ever learn?

Dirk van Ulden

Yes Jorg - before Jesus Christ was born, there were never any wars,

Rscollins

Agreed Mr. Paine. No atheist ever started a war.

Dirk van Ulden

Yes Rscollins - Hitler, Pot Pol, Gengish Khan and their ilk were closet religious zealots.
