Editor,

The push for stricter voter ID laws traces back to Donald Trump and his repeated, unproven claims that the 2020 election was “rigged.”

Here we go again…with Jordan Sher repeating easily debunked Democrat talking points about the SAVE America Act. If anything, the SAVE America Act increases the confidence that qualified voters will vote, knowing their votes won’t be nullified by folks not allowed to vote. We all know obtaining a birth certificate or a married name change, especially online, is quick and easy and folks can receive their documents within a month, or less. In person, they can receive documents in a day or two. And Jordan states voter fraud is exceedingly rare. What are the numbers and why is Jordan okay with any amount of fraud. Hey Jordan, take a gander and read Ms. Grace Xuereb’s LTE to become better informed.

The only people who will be barred from voting will be invaders to our country and people committing fraud. Of course, people who can’t be bothered to obtain valid ID likely don’t care enough to vote... The biggest reason folks should want the SAVE America Act to pass is that Democrats don’t like the Act. Remember, Democrats in NYC wanted what, four forms of ID to be paid for shoveling snow. And didn’t Democrats in Connecticut pass a law that requires photo ID to recycle aluminum cans? And these Democrats don’t think folks need ID to vote? Crazy. And why the SAVE America Act is needed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. BTW, check out O’Keefe Media Group’s undercover investigation into massive election fraud on LA’s Skid Row. More reasons for the SAVE America Act to pass.

I agree with the points Mr. Sher made about the SAVE America Act and the California Voter ID initiative. It would disenfranchise citizens from voting. The Brennan Center found over nine percent of eligible voters don’t have ready access to required documents, https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/213-million-american-citizens-voting-age-dont-have-ready-access. Many women have names that do not match their birth certificates (https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/new-save-act-bills-would-still-block-millions-americans-voting).

A similar law passed in Kansas in 2011. It “ended up blocking the voter registrations of more than 31,000 U.S. citizens who were otherwise eligible to vote. That was 12% of everyone seeking to register in Kansas for the first time. Federal courts ultimately declared the law an unconstitutional burden on voting rights, and it hasn’t been enforced since 2018. https://apnews.com/article/kansas-noncitizen-voting-proof-of-citizenship-50d56a0b8d1f0fde15480aab3db67f4f?utm_source=copy&utm_medium=share

Fraud is rare as evidenced by the Heritage Foundation’s exhaustive research into the matter, https://www.brookings.edu/articles/how-widespread-is-election-fraud-in-the-united-states-not-very/). For example HF went back 25 years in Arizona elections to find 36 cases. With over 32 million votes cast, that’s a percentage of .0000845% fraudulent votes.

So less than a fraction of a percent of votes are cast by noncitizens, and there is a possibility of turning away up to 9 or 10 or 12 percent of voters. It’s not worth the time and expense to implement it. I agree with Mr. Sher that it is to sow doubts in unfavorable election results. To this end, political groups have put replacement theory, the extremist idea that there is a conspiracy to replace white Americans with non-whites for political gain, into conventional right-wing political discourse and into the G.O.P. (May 15, 2022, “A Fringe Conspiracy Theory, Fostered Online, Is Refashioned by the G.O.P.” New York Times) and https://www.npr.org/2024/09/13/g-s1-22583/trump-great-replacement-conspiracy-theory

Here we go again with a regurgitation of Democrat talking points… Hey ClashFan, we’ve gone over your alleged lack of access to documents in the past. Type in “how fast can I get a copy of birth certificate or marriage certificate” and results will tell you how quickly and what steps to take. If one is unable to go, in-person, to retrieve documents, one can easily access the internet to obtain documents to be delivered. Almost 100% of Americans have access to broadband and for those who don’t they can find someone that does. Besides, didn’t one need a birth certificate to get a driver’s license? Pass the SAVE America Act. Personally, I’d say pass the MEGA Act - a better piece of legislation. BTW, why would you be okay with any percentage of voter fraud? Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Voter fraud is mainly in Trump’s empty head! If he has a single lotto ticket that is not a winner, it is because it was rigged against him!

Jorg

Who would risk being tossed out of the country for voting without a citizen’s right to do so?

Dirk van Ulden

Jorg - because they know that there are no repercussions. I served at several Vote Centers, and the ones in Redwood City and surroundings seemed to attract voters who had no clue. They were invariably Hispanic and needed a lot of guidance to get to use the equipment or the mailed-in ballots. Again, we were not asked, by law, to verify anything, as long as they were a warm body, with an address, they could vote. I am reasonably fluent in Spanish and that helped. These folks, bless them, have in may cases already come over the border illegally and could not give a hoot about our laws or the laws in heir country of origin to begin with. We are dealing here with a cultural issue that the Democrats are capitalizing on. These are not the immigrants that not yet share the values or the assimilation that you and I savor. For the record, my wife of 50+ years is Hispanic, now a naturalized citizen, and she does not think such voting fraud is a problem at all; it is par for the course in her country of origin, El Salvador. How to explain that to the average American?

Jorg

Thanks for the clarification, Dirk! Like you, I had an imported wife, mine from Sweden, as blond and Nordic as they come! Unfortunately, she passed away a few years ago, leaving me with two great kids, a son and a daughter.
