Regarding “All Quiet on the Western Front” on Feb. 12: The high school students that are referred to are not mindless fanatics. Rather, they see and decry the murderous inhumanity of ICE as well as threats to the values of our nation. We who don’t have blinders on can see this as well and are depending on this younger generation to clean up the mess we older generations are leaving for them. The cited comparisons are specious. What this country is on the precipice of is not fanaticism, but the threat of becoming an autocratic state, with the first lines of defense being the repugnantly renamed Department of War and a militarized Department of Homeland Aggression.

Just listen to some of his public statements...incomprehensible...and Trump thinks Biden was slipping mentally? And he hired a bunch of incompetent clowns for his cabinet. You've apparently bought into the fiction that most illegal immigrants are violent criminals and terrorists. That's just Trump's load of horseshit. In fact, most illegal immigrants are just desperate for a better life, are working or seeking work, contribute to our economy by taking jobs no one else wants, and contribute monetarily through tax withholdings. And they are most assuredly NOT deserving of utterly inhumane treatment from ICE. They are mostly good people.

Look Brian - I am an immigrant and so is my wife. What you fail to recognize is that many early immigrants were also rejected for several reasons and also were required to have some means of self support if they were allowed in. The main entries were Ellis Island on the East Coast and Angel Island on the West coast. If they could not pass certain and quite liberal standards, they were sent right back on the ships that brought them. We had immigration floods from 1840 to 1889 amounting to less than 15 million, mostly Europeans and Asians. It took 50 years for that influx but less than 4 years for Biden with his estimated 10 million migrants. Nobody is alleging that all illegal immigrants are criminals, but even CNN reported that 14% have criminal backgrounds. 14% of 10 million recent migrants during Biden's open border, amounts to 140,000 undesirables. Every crime committed by them is one too many and avoidable. That number is 5 times the population of Belmont where you and I try to live in peace. This is not a Trump issue, it affects you and me and our families. The statement on the Statue of Liberty is nostalgic, dated, and only used by persons like you to irrationally rationalize massive migration, many of whom refuse to assimilate but are looking for a handout and other benefits.

The editors of the SMDJ would gain credibility if they placed a notation next to your opinion piece that indicated "Brian's thoughts are not factual, they are indeed falsehoods and idealogical driven, but we at the SMDJ will not edit news, even fake news and distortions."
ICE is not murderous or inhumane, but rather they are carrying out the necessary arrest of immigrants who illegally entered the United States Of America. All the while LA, Chicago, NY, Philadelphia etc police departments sit idly buy and watch as ICE officers are attacked and assaulted. ICE has had to defend themselves from paid for agitators, they are not attacking these protesters / agitators without cause, they are defending themselves. Imagine if these agitators stopped poking the bear, and peacefully protested their cause, what would the results would be? There would be peace and calm, illegal immigrants would be rightfully and legally arrested and deported. Brian did you complain when Obama did the same and where were the paid for agitators?
I'd like to see one, ( you're first up Brian) just one democrat who fights for illegal immigrants to open the doors to their homes, remove all fences around their homes and compounds and then disconnect all security devices and allow free access to their property. Until then, you all are hypocrites.
And finally, any student who protests ICE are indeed ignorant to the truth, they are programmed by public education, parents, CNN, and falsehoods that land in print like yours.
