Editor,

Mark Simon’s “Community of one” section of his recent column raised an important question about what it means to represent a community. As a District 1 resident, I’d like to add a data point.

The district 1 group you reference here is an informal group made up of neighbors whose singular goal is to try to encourage a relocation of the planned detox facility. It is NOT a debate group trying to garner differing opinions on that matter. Nor is it a formally established community group for everyone to join. Not sure why you would waste time trying to join a “club” that you disagree with anyway and then take the time to complain publicly about it when you weren’t included? I’m sure there are plenty of other groups and organizations that would welcome your differing views.

A great litmus test for 'character' vs 'characters':

You can always tell the character of a person if they embrace or oppose bike lanes for children. Let's make this a 'Told-You-So' moment.
