Local legislators are calling out the impacts of what could become the longest shutdown of the federal government in history, including 42 million Americans — around 35,000 of whom are in San Mateo County — losing access to food assistance benefits and child care programs like Head Start closing down.

“Let’s be clear, no one wins in a government shutdown,” U.S. Rep. Kevin Mullin, D-South San Francisco, said at a press conference Oct. 30, with local child care providers highlighting the shutdown’s impact. “It is happening, though, because we are confronting the destruction of modern government by the majority, and the taking away of critical services that people rely on, day in and day out.”

Hopefully, most readers of the SMDJ are now immune to the tired old MAGA hysterical lying about "illegals" getting healthcare - debunked time and again - in fact, their taxes prop up the MAGAt poor and our Social Security - and "criminals and terrorists" invading the country being rounded up by ICE - make that poor migrant workers and immigrant children with absolutely no criminal record zip tied and detained by masked thugs cosplaying as "security forces." And talk about pork! 40 Billion with a "B" to prop up Argentina for the crypto oligarchs, a $300 million "ballroom" paid with bribes and grift, millions of actual citizens thrown off of their Healthcare plans to line billionaires pockets. And now that it is obvious that felonious Dear Leader, rather than the Democrats they thought were involved, engaged in trafficking with his pal Epstein, the Republicans are extending this shutdown to delay (and more likely destroy) the evidence And these MAGAts blame the Democrats? Absolutely hysterical.

Absolutely hysterical. SMpool lobbing personal attacks on anyone who doesn’t agree with her (and that's the vast majority of people on earth). But don’t worry, SMpool, not just hopefully, but surely, just about all readers of the SMDJ are immune to the tired fake news and lies talking points Democrats are forcing you to repeat. Not only that, a reminder that SMpool has said she takes pride in the progress made in women’s and civil rights yet she’s never answered why it’s okay for biological men claiming they’re women to compete, steal medals, and in some instances injure biological women. Or why it’s okay for men to use women’s locker rooms (a la Planet Fitness). Or whether it would be okay for men claiming to be women advertise as woman-owned businesses.

While we wait for SMpool to make positive contributions, the Trump train continues rolling along. Trump killed the “global green tax” that would have created a UN slush fund. Trump smoked yet another drug boat. The US will not send a delegation to the UN climate hoax conference which, unlike other attendees to Brazil, will reduce carbon emissions. (Hey DavidKristofferson, if that’s who you are, how about them apples.) I think I speak for many Trump supporters when I say, “You’re welcome and we hope you’re not tired of winning.” Have a Trump-tastic day!

It is truly astounding to hear Mullin speak about the shutdown while he is fully aware of the reason. Under Obama we went from 20 million SNAP recipients to 41 million today. How many in our County are now accustomed to this give away and should not qualify? Why in the heck are we providing expensive healthcare to illegal migrants? That alone is costing us a fortune and was a magnet for illegal entry. Mullin is falsely lumping other needed federally financed programs with the main culprit, continued subsidies for healthcare for those who are not entitled and other pork that the US Senate refuses to fund. Now, who is at fault for this calamity? Duplicity at its best!.

What Mr. Mullin and local legislators conveniently leave out is that Democrats are the sole cause of folks losing access to food assistance benefits and child care programs. Mr. Mullins say, “Let’s be clear, no one wins in a government shutdown.” So why doesn’t Mr. Mullin and his fellow Democrats open the government? Let’s be perfectly clear. Democrats are holding Americans hostage because they want more taxpayer money to support invaders to our country.

If you’re affected by a loss of food assistance benefits and child care programs, begin to vote Republican. In the meantime, call your representatives and tell them to open the government. Meanwhile, if you know any Democrats, especially Mr. Mullin and local legislators, hit them up for food assistance benefits and child care and ask why Democrats are willing to put the welfare of criminals and terrorists over the American people.
