Ayres' boss at Judge Baker was Dr. George Gardner. Gardner was not only a psychiatrist but unlike Ayres, was also a bona fide pediatrician. And despite having a pediatric training, Gardner - unlike Ayres - was fully aware that iin a therapeutic setting it would be dangerous and confusing to the boundaries of a child to have his therapist suddenly start asking him to take off his clothes and "examine him." Under Gardner's watch, none of his child psychiatrist trainees were permitted to give physicals exams to the children in therapy.
Not that any child psychiatrist in training there ever asked to do this. The William Ayres blog has talked to many child psychiatrists who trained with Ayres. Like Ayres, some of them had one year of training in pediatrics before hand. Some even had two years. But they said they did not for a minute think that just because they'd had a bit of pediatric training that this suddenly gave them license to physically examine children in therapy. " Judge Baker was a bastion of psychoanalysis, not pediatrics," one child psychiatrist who trained with Ayres told the william ayres blog. " We were there to treat the kids' minds. It was just understood: you didn't touch the kids in therapy. Period. And we certainly did not look at their genitals to gauge their sexual development. The suggestion that anyone was trained to do this to children in therapy at Judge Baker - or anywhere else - is just nonsense. George Gardner would have never allowed that sort of thing to go on. " As world renowned child psychiatrist Dr. Jacqueline Amati Mehler - who trained with Ayres said: " In the sessions, it was verbal only. If there was a physical problem, pediatrics took care of it." If the child had a physical problem he was immedately taken over to Childrens' Hospital, one of the best in the country- where there were board certified pediatricians there to treat the kids. Why on earth would the administration at Judge Baker entrust physical exams to child psychiatrists who weren't even pediatricians, when there were world class trained pediatricians at their disposal, right across the street? Ayres sure has a lot of splaining to do. Somehow Ayres has fixated on that one year of pediatrics he had at Yale to justify all of his creepy and criminal acts against boys. There are thousands and thousands of child psychiatrists in this country who've had far more training in pediatrics than he ever had, but somehow they understood implicitly the damage that would be done to boys to have their genitals examined. Not to mention masturbating them to ejaculation and much worse. And all that nonsense about him being a "Physician first and a psychiatrist second.?" Garbage-ola. If he felt so strongly about the importance of giving boys physical exams, why in God's name didn't he go into pediatrics?? Could it have been the little problem of the mothers being in the room? He knew the rules of child psychiatry and he chose to break them to suit his own needs. His mind has become so weighed down with his deluded rationalizations that he thinks he is really is God's gift to pediatrics.. with one lousy year of pediatrics under his belt.. Try telling that to the California Medical Board. Last edited by Wilson : 11-16-2009 at 08:05 AM. |

His lawyer has filed some motions- among them the right to contact the jurors in the first trial.
